In this city, all plant life is illegal.
The Botanist was part of an initiative to revitalize plant life in the city using a Superseed, capable of blooming miles upon miles of vegetation and flora in an instant.
However, when the corrupt government shut down the project, the Botanist devised a plan to plant the Superseed and fulfill the mission themself... undercover.
The Botanist first started out as me just marvelling over the coloring choices made in certain movies. The Matrix had green, Mad Max Fury Road had orange, what iconic color would I give my own world? I settled on black and hot pink, never seen a movie with that color scheme before!
I then tried to find out what that palette could symbolize in this world. I wanted to create my own original meaning for these colors rather than the stereotypical "pink = feminine" symbolism, so I made hot pink represent the artificially colored chemical atmosphere and the flashy fake advertising covering up the greyscale dinginess of the everyday reality in the city.
A year after that I was thinking of the perfect story I could set in this city, and what characters I could create to tell it. What better than the embodiments of two strongly opposing forces, nature and technology?
The Botanist will be released in its entirety at film festivals a few months from now, then it will be released on YouTube a while after!
